Freshers

Freshers Welcome
Congratulations on the confirmation of your place at Cambridge, and welcome to Pembroke! My name is Emily, a third year Law student at Pembroke, and I am the President of the Junior Parlour Committee (known as the JPC). We are a committee of students who have been elected to represent and support the undergraduate community at Pembroke. At the beginning of Michaelmas, the first term of the academic year, the JPC’s focus is on welcoming a new cohort of freshers to Pembroke. The JPC plans lots of ways to help you settle in to life in Cambridge and to help you navigate your first few weeks at University. You can expect various workshops, a Freshers only BOP, movie nights, welfare teas, and much more!
Before coming to Pembroke
First, make sure you’ve read everything college have sent you and responded where required. A list of college’s communication to undergraduate offer holders can be found on the Pembroke website here.
Pack! Packing for university, particularly the first time, can be difficult and stressful. The Student Union, in its previous guise as CUSU, compiled a list of common items that you will probably want to bring and another of things you won’t need. This can be found here.
Follow our social media and check out the rest of this website for more information. Our officers will be active on our Instagram page throughout the lead up to Freshers’ Week to answer any specific questions you may have about preparing for your arrival at Pembroke.
If you have any questions or concerns relating to costs and finances, information is available on the college website (here) and the JPC have compiled some links here.
Pembroke JPC on Social Media
Our main social media pages are linked below. It is definitely worth keeping up with these if you use social media – they are an easy way to get in touch with us and we will be posting throughout the lead up to Freshers’ Week. Don’t worry if you do not use social media – the JPC will be in touch with you via your new University email address, and you can also get in touch with us via email.
